How to Install a Custom Wrap in Tesla Paint Shop

Prepare a wrap PNG on USB, open Tesla Paint Shop, and troubleshoot common custom-wrap import issues.

This guide explains how to move a wrap PNG from Tesla Wrap Design to the Paint Shop feature in your vehicle. Menu labels and file requirements can change with vehicle software, so follow any requirements shown on your Tesla touchscreen first.

1. Export the correct vehicle template

Choose the exact Tesla model and variant in the editor before exporting. Review the flat template and 3D preview, then download the finished design as a PNG. A wrap made for a different model may not align with the vehicle panels.

2. Prepare the USB drive

Use a USB drive formatted with a file system accepted by the version of Paint Shop shown in your vehicle. At the root of the drive, create a folder named exactly Wraps.

Keep the wrap drive separate from software-update files when possible. If the vehicle displays a different folder, format, image-size, or file-size requirement, use the on-screen requirement.

3. Copy the PNG

Place the exported PNG directly inside the Wraps folder. Do not rename the file extension or place the image inside an additional nested folder. Eject the drive safely after the copy completes.

4. Select the design in Paint Shop

Insert the USB drive into the vehicle, then open Toybox → Paint Shop → Wraps. Select the design and inspect the preview before applying it.

Troubleshooting

If the image does not appear:

  • Confirm that the folder is named Wraps and is at the drive root
  • Confirm that the file is a PNG exported for the selected vehicle model
  • Check the touchscreen for current image dimensions, file-size, and USB-format requirements
  • Remove unrelated update files or try a dedicated USB drive
  • Export the design again if the download was interrupted
